The design initially tried to break away from horizontal division of traditional residential development by vertical connections. It extend its living spaces three dimensionally by segregate and merge 3 indepndent living units and stacking them vertically. This offeres each unit a distinct and integrated ground and void spaces.

The project is located at Xinyi Dristict, which is quite small and has a site area of
355m2(107pin). Beside earlier smaller projects this area is nearly fully developed with
mostly medium or large scale buildings.

The site is at the corner that has 2 streets on its sides. It faces a private garden and public
open space at its front and left. This has created a unique visual and landscape condition
for this project.

The design initially tried to break away from horizontal division of traditional residential
development by vertical connections. It try to create 3 residential units stacking on top of
each other. This has offered each unit a distinct and integrated ground and void spaces.
By locating this most flexible special void at front, it has connected the outdoor landscape
visually and spatially. The double height balconies are an reaction of each units’
independence. By divide and connect the building with horizontal components, the
random arrangement of the façade elements is a direct reflection of the space and
function inside.
